This report was developed by Loyola University Chicago to provide criminal justice practitioners, policy makers and the general public with an understanding of how the adult criminal justice system in Cook County is organized, how it functions, and how each component of the system is interrelated with the others, as well as to examine major trends in arrests, prosecutions and sentencing in recent decades. The data utilized in this report come exclusively from data and information available through state-level reporting mechanisms in Illinois, and thus allow for some comparisons to other jurisdictions in Illinois.
